    I've looked through the vmkernel.log file but that thing is pretty foreign to me and I don't know how to clear it so that I have a fresh log to go off of. I've looked at the individual vmware.log files for each VM after I power them on but nothing at all shows up during the power on process. In fact it doesn't even look like the disk is being accessed at all during that time.

    I've run esxtop and to see disk activity/latency once I power on a VM but nothing stands out.

    I had to manually install a VIB for my M.2 SSD to show up and I still don't have my two 10GbE NICs working yet. I should note that my server hardware is very new and is not fully supported natively by VMware. I've looked at the vmware.log files for the VMs to see if there is anything in there but when I clear that log, nothing shows up in them at all until after the power on task completes which I guess makes sense since the VM isn't doing anything during that time. After that 45 seconds, the power on process completes and I then see the OS booting normally in the console.

    So once I click to power on a VM, the "Power On vritual machine" task shows "in progress" for 45 seconds. I'm referring to the time the VMware task itself takes to complete not how long it takes the guest OS to startup. I just built a new ESXi 5.5 server and I'm noticing a weird issue with regard to when I manually power on any guest VM.Įvery time I manually power on a VM the process takes exactly 45 seconds to complete.
